The Colossian believers had some mistaken notions about Jesus, just like many people today, so Paul sets the record straight. It is important that we all understand who Jesus is and what he offers us. They had a diminished view of Jesus, which is unfortunate, so this passage presents Jesus as he is: the supreme being.
